Cherryville Days June 6, 7 & 8, 2008
1st Annual Cherryville Day 1963

2008 Outhouse Races
This year’s Outhouse Races will be held once again during Cherryville Days, Sunday, June 8, at the Community Hall, 2:00 pm. Those who were there last year will recall that the competition was a little sparse. To avoid surprises this year, we are asking all racing teams to confirm their registration in advance. Please contact Wayne Cunneyworth at 547-9300 or e-mail to enter. So far, the only confirmed racer is the famous Twin Crapper 88, with men’s and ladies’ teams yet to be accounted for – but don’t worry, we’ll be there!
Who else will be there to compete against the incredible Twin Crapper 88 for the amazing Exploding Outhouse Trophy? After last year, several locals vowed they would have an entry ready this year. (Rumour has it one person bet $100 to charity that his racer would win!) Where are those great racers of the past? Will another favourite regular, the River Ridge 9th Hole, be there? What about the Pastor’s Potty from Aumond Road? The awesome Black Hole? Remember that death-defying Johnson-Templeton-Arcand entry – has it retired for good? Let’s hope not! What new outhouse effort are you working on now, as you read this?
The Outhouse Races have been a popular staple of Cherryville Days for many years, with chills and spills to thrill even the most hard-core racing fans. Let’s show our visitors how Cherryville people do it on the run!
Outhouse Race Rules
1. Safety: The first rule of consideration is safety for the racers and for the public. Use common sense when engineering, building and racing your outhouse. All racers must sign a waiver prior to the race.
2. Outhouses: Outhouses must have at least 3 walls, a roof, a doorway, and a seat with at least one hole, large enough to seat the driver. A door is optional. No weight requirement. Any number and size of wheels may be used. Outhouses may be constructed of any solid materials except glass, and must be structurally sound enough to survive the race. The structure must be a useable outhouse, either on or off the wheels. Each outhouse must have a name, in acceptable language, to be displayed somewhere on the outhouse.
3. Teams: Both men’s and ladies’ teams are requested for each racer. A team shall consist of three people. Riders must be at least 12 years old. No weight limit for riders. One person must ride inside, while the other two push (or pull). Protective knee pads will be supplied to all racers, but please bring your own helmets. Dress code: Cherryville Days theme requested (clowns).
4. The Race: The length of the track will be marked by two barrels. The race will proceed from one barrel to the other, around the barrels, back and forth. The team shall change riders each time around a barrel. The race finishes when all three team members have ridden one track length (i.e., three lengths in total).
